Our web-based field data collection applications are designed to update site databases remotely. Our current suite allows you to collect groundwater elevation data, and soil and groundwater chemical data. Future versions will include forms for collecting boring data and Phase I site visit data.
The service is a form server that provides the field geoscientist with a form for entering data. These data are transmitted via the Internet back to the office to update the site databases. Error checking routines are impemented to insure accurate data are entered.
Since the form server is web-based, any Netscape Navigator 2.0 compliant web browser can be used to access and use the service. Data security can be implemented through a variety of methods from password protection to utilizing a secure server. The physical Internet connection can be over phone lines or via a cellular or other wireless connection. Ricochet wireless modems can be used to access the form server from almost anywhere within the San Franciso Bay area.
The following image is a screen shot of the initial form presented by the server, as viewed in NetHopper (a Newton-based web browser). The user enters the site name and location and the service that they want to use, such as collect groundwater elevation data.

Once a site and service are selected, these data are transmitted back to the form server. The server responds by generating a site specific form for collecting data. The resulting forms and how they are used can be observed through the following links:
