The Fossil Record

The fossil record is a primary source of information for evaluating the history of life. While the fossil record is unique in that it documents the presence of life for over 80% of the earth's history, it provides a biased record of past. Our examination of fossils focuses on how fossils form and the processes of fossil formation.

Through this evaluation, we will recognize the types of biases in the fossil record, how these biases are introduced, and how to work within their constraints to understand the history of life.
