News:
This week was consisted of bug fixes and page design. At the start of the week, a new version of the Frontier Publisher suite was released. It added a number of new features, including addition of html content via web forms. Unfortunately, it also came with a number of bugs. I spent much of Monday working through these. By Tuesday, however, I had a system up, running, and tested. There, however, were more bugs to squash and it wasn't until today that I had things where I really wanted them.
The system as it stands now is a workable example of dynamic site that is updated by email posts.
You can check out the system by going to the Links Elsewhere page and click on the link to the ES Designs test server. The test server is now a dynamic site that is updated whenever a new email posting to it arrives. Any mail sent to flash@es-designs.com will be added to the site as a news item. Give it a try.
The processes involved in setting up the test site can be transfered to any site. I am planning on transfering the ideas developed the test site to this site in the near future. At the same time, it is becoming clearer to me that a dynamic server has a lot of power. For example I am thinking of putting together a self-archiving website. This would be a dynamic site that automatically rearranges and rebuilds itself on a regular schedule. Old pages would be archived with all of the requisite links to them changed or maintained as necessary.
I like the concept of the test server. It gives me an opportunity to check out ideas and build examples. The test server is where the action is. It is the frontier. It may not be safe, but it is usually interesting. It is the wild side of ES Designs. The test server provides an idea of the current work that we are doing.
I have also added a few discussions to the test server. They are more related to Internet and web server topics, so don't really belong on this site, but I think are interesting none the less. As Joe Bob says, "Check it out!"
