Dear Friends and Family,
For those of you that don't know, Susie, Eliza and I have moved to
Steamboat Springs, Colorado (the Yampa Valley). Our move was laborious,
but smooth and filled with much excitement and a falr amount of
apprehension. Excitement for pursuing our dream of living in a small
town in the mountains. Apprehension for quiting our good jobs in the Bay
Area and coming here with no jobs. But here we are.
Upon arriving in Steamboat, the Environmental Group Manager of
TerraMatrix (Montegomery Watson's mining group) offered me contract work.
I have so far worked on a coal mine reclamation project (revegetation
field work) and a landslide mitigation project (proposal and pm). August
18 I am going to Southern Peru for 1-2 weeks to install water quality
wells for an Environmental Assessment of a copper mine expansion and heap
leaching proposal. My boss hinted recently that he will likely be
offering me a full-time position; projections permitting. So all I can
say is "Yahooo!!!"
Susie is taking care of Eliza and Hopi and working part time for a
testing service that evaluates GED candidates. This winter she will
probably teach skiing.
There have been many fun things to do, including concerts on the
mountain, mountain biking on single track minutes from our house, world
class mountian bike races to watch, successful fly fishing for trout,
horseback riding, and lots of fascinating geology.
I hope all of you are well. We have a guest room in our house with a
compfortable bed, private bath and view of the ski mountain. Any of you
are welcome to visit any time. Just call or write.
