Lima Beans

Last Saturday Michele & I went to the Volunteer Firemen's bash in Newman,
CA. This annual event raises funds to support the station for the coming
year. It includes a steak dinner, dancing and a raffle and is pretty well
attended (over 200 people this year). Michele's father, Henry, is a
member of the squad, so we try to go when we can. Two years ago when
Michele & I went, the first item to be raffled off was a picnic basket.
Upon seeing it Michele stated, "Oh, who would want that." She promptly
won it.
This year, however, Michele was skunked. Loaded with close to twenty
tickets, she had to sit through the entire raffle as people around her
picked varied prizes. Fortunately for her, I was one of those who picked
up one of the more varied prizes. They held up a flash light set, mumbled
something else through the failing sound system, and then as near as I
could tell called out one of my six numbers. I raised my hand and a
fireman came over lugging the flashlight set, a tee-shirt, and a large
nondescript bag.
After confirming that I had indeed won the prizes, I surveyed my loot.
The flashlight set consisted of a pair of flashlights and a leatherman
knockoff. The tee-shirt was actually a quality polo shirt (a little
large, but I can live with it), and the nondescript bag contained 25
pounds of lima beans.
Today in the mail, I received a number of recipes for lima beans from my
mother. As soon as I get them scanned and converted to text, I will post
them to the site.
